A Force for Engagement

Outstanding Facilities

The Carlson School of Management serves as the nexus for Minnesota’s business community to benefit from innovative research, find top talent to fuel the workforce pipeline, and build partnerships that forge new alliances and foster growth.

Our vision is to reinvent our existing facilities to benefit students and the business community. We will provide students and faculty with the kinds of facilities that inspire innovative learning, foster leadership, and encourage participation and inquiry. We will also expand the capacity of our flagship facility to serve as Minnesota’s primary gathering place for creative collaborations with business and outreach to the community.

New funding for improvements and modernization of our existing facilities will maximize Carlson’s strengths in teaching, learning, and community engagement for the betterment of all.

The Carlson School is kicking off the 2020 season of the 1st Tuesday Speaker Series with Joan Gabel, President of the University of Minnesota. Since 1992, the School has welcomed corporate executives, academics, and community leaders to what has become the longest running business luncheon of its type, serving and connecting the Twin Cities business community.

The dean of the school provides a brief introduction at each event, which is open to the community and typically sees audiences between 250-400 attendees. The speakers have offered everything from formal presentations to panels and fireside chats. Presenters have used the forum to speak about leadership, change, and innovation, with an underlying theme of many of the topics being tackling grand challenges, and using business as a force for good.

The series has featured the past three University presidents, as well as three current or former governors of the state of Minnesota. Appearances have been made by CEOs of nearly every Fortune 500 company based in the state of Minnesota, and more than 150 C-Suite speakers have been featured over the years. Participation by so many of the highest level leadership in the twin cities and beyond speaks to the strong ties between the Carlson School and the business community. In addition, Wells Fargo has been a longstanding presenting sponsor for the event.

The 1st Tuesday Speaker Series is just one way that the Carlson School engages with partners in the business community to the benefit of students, faculty, alumni, and local companies. See how your company can get involved here!
